Upcoming seminar: The Art of Exit
I'm excited to announce that I'll be facilitating "The Art of Exit: The Poetry and Politics of Reclusion in medieval Japan" at Incite Seminars on May 4th, 11th, and 18th!
Please join us for three Saturdays in May at 10 AM (Pacific) to explore the work of Saigyo, Kamo no Chomei, and other poet-recluses in Japan who left society behind in order to wrestle with the societal and existential crisis they witnessed unfolding around them. Come read some Japanese poetry, learn about the history of Japan, and grapple with fundamental questions about the relationship between art, faith, and politics.
The seminar costs $60 to participate in all three sessions, but is free for members of Incite Seminars. I love being a part of the Incite Seminars community, and participating in their reading groups and seminars. It's exciting to be able to give back to this community!
I'd love to see you in the class, so please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns, especially about the money. We'd hate for someone to miss out because of a lack of funds. I look forward to seeing you there!
